Global M&A activity in 2025 has been defined by fewer but larger deals. While overall deal volumes have declined, total value has surged – driven by a rise in megadeals, especially in Q3. Dealogic reports $1.26 trillion in global megadeals during the third quarter, up 40 percent year-on-year, making it the second-highest Q3 on record by value.

Despite elevated interest rates, geopolitical tensions and tighter regulatory scrutiny increasing financing costs and execution risks, dealmaking has persisted. Key drivers include the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence, pent-up demand, strong private capital and strategic consolidation.

Activity has been concentrated in sectors such as technology, media, AI, data infrastructure, aerospace and financial services, where firms are pursuing growth, transformation and digital capability acquisition.
